BushWang worked with Generate Biomedicines and the Flagship team on the design of their space in the 101 South Street building, a nine-story research complex at Boynton Yard in Somerville, MA. The Generate Bio group occupies the top two floors of the building, at 33,000 SF per floor, for a total of 66,000 SF.
The fit-up programs included:

• Closed Specialty Labs
• Open and Closed Lab Support Zones
• Open Workstation Areas
• Enclosed Offices
• Conference & Huddle Rooms
• Staff Break Areas
• Staff support Spaces
The main lobby for Generate Bio suite is located on Level 8, along with the adjacent reception, waiting and staff interaction zones. These interaction spaces provide an informal, unassigned work environment for staff and encourage collaboration among researchers. The black-and-white Generate Bio brand is reflected in these spaces and throughout the finish palette of the common areas.
The design process for these two floors took approximately 12 weeks, from a blank slate to completion of the design documents. Construction was completed in approximately 24 weeks at a cost of approximately $28 million.
